Red River Métis and Israeli Academic Communities Unite for International Education Exchange

On May 2, 2023, the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF), Vickar Automotive Group (Vickar Group), and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) took a monumental step forward, signing a Donor Pledge Agreement (DPA) to establish a groundbreaking partnership for international research, education, and cultural exchange.

The collaboration aims to foster cooperation and mutual understanding between the Red River Métis community in Canada and the academic community in Israel. By focusing on research in health, environment, and social issues, as well as educational and cultural programs, both communities stand to benefit from shared resources and expertise.

MMF President David Chartrand emphasized the importance of this partnership for advancing research and education in areas of mutual interest. "By working together, we can leverage our strengths and expertise to address some of the most pressing issues facing our communities today," said Chartrand. "We are excited about the legacy opportunities that this partnership will create for our students and researchers."

BGU Vice-President Jeff Kaye echoed Chartrand's sentiments, stating, "This partnership reflects our commitment to building bridges across cultures and borders."

MMF Minister of Education Joan Ledoux highlighted the exciting potential for collaboration and innovation, while Minister of Early Learning & Child Care Frances Chartrand emphasized the importance of learning from and sharing knowledge with other cultures and communities.

Larry Vickar of the Vickar Group, a key supporter of the partnership, expressed his belief in the collaboration's potential for innovation and learning. "I am proud to support international education exchange partnership with the Manitoba Métis Federation and Ben-Gurion University. I look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on both our communities."

The Donor Pledge Agreement will be effective immediately and will be in effect for five years, with the possibility of renewal. The partnership between the MMF, Vickar Group, and BGU marks a significant milestone in promoting international understanding and cooperation. Through this collaboration, both the Red River Métis and Israeli academic communities will build bridges for a brighter future, where research, education, and cultural exchange can thrive.
